Putting the Climate Commitment Act into action

Washington’s Climate Commitment Act is one of the most ambitious and effective carbon pollution markets in the world. It sets a declining limit on carbon pollution while requiring large emitters to purchase allowances for their emissions, generating revenue that is then reinvested into climate and community priorities. Clean & Prosperous works to ensure its success by supporting effective implementation, tracking carbon market developments, and highlighting and guiding reinvestment opportunities.

“Washington’s Climate Commitment Act is built on evidence-based best practices in climate policy from around the world, including the EU. This [2025 study mission] showed European policymakers that placing a cap on pollution and investing the resources directly into clean air, clean water, free transit, wildfire prevention and building a lower carbon economy is the right direction for our future."
