At nearly 40 percent, transportation makes up the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions in Washington state. Continuing to rely on gas and diesel – particularly for larger vehicles – means more expensive fuel for drivers, dirtier air for communities, and continued impacts on planet-warming emissions.
As we see the federal government continue to roll back transportation decarbonization efforts, it’s all the more important that we double down at the state and local level.
That’s where our friends at Breaking Barriers Collaborative come in!
From our Executive Director, Michael Mann: “Clean & Prosperous is proud to be a founding partner of Breaking Barriers Collaborative. In just a few years, Breaking Barriers Collaborative has helped hundreds of decision-makers advance real progress toward electrifying their fleet, impacting thousands of vehicles across the Pacific Northwest. We encourage businesses to join the Fleet Electrification Accelerator; it’s a smart business move that will put your organization at the leading edge of the growing – and inevitable – electric vehicle transition.”
Breaking Barriers Collaborative is now accepting applications for their 6th Fleet Electrification Accelerator cohort! This program simplifies EV adoption by equipping businesses with trustworthy resources and expert networks, enabling them to create cost-effective electrification plans and put them into action.

The Fleet Electrification Accelerator is a proven program endorsed by 95 percent of its graduates, from those with small fleets like Grand Central Bakery, to larger fleets like Boeing and Skanska. BBC has helped over 120 decision-makers from 60+ businesses, non-profits, colleges, and government entities learn how to electrify their fleets—encompassing over 20,000 vehicles.
“This program truly accelerated our business’s fleet electrification,” said Steve Clem of Skanska, who completed the Accelerator in 2024. “We’ve recently announced our plans to buy only EVs moving forward, and the Fleet Electrification Accelerator was absolutely critical to getting us to this point. We wouldn’t be ready to put these plans into action if it weren’t for this program’s curriculum and the connections it helped us form.”

New This Week | Seattle Offers Funding for Electric Drayage
Speaking of state and local organizations doubling down on transportation electrification, we were thrilled to see this announcement from the City of Seattle: The City of Seattle…announced $1.5 million in truck purchasing incentives to Zeem Solutions (Zeem), a business leader in designing, building, and operating electric vehicle charging depots for commercial fleets.
This builds on existing Climate Commitment Act-funded programs like the Northwest Seaport Alliance’s partnership with Zeem Solutions, and the forthcoming WAZIP!
“We are thankful to the City of Seattle for helping the region adopt electric trucks and their strong commitment to electrifying the Seattle-Tacoma cargo gateways,” said Paul Gioupis, founder and CEO of Zeem Solutions. “Through our partnership with the City of Seattle we can help small fleet operators tap into funding opportunities and overcome the upfront cost barrier to electrification. By bundling charging, vehicles, and support services, Zeem makes it practical for all operators to transition to EVs and realize both economic and environmental benefits.”
