Two Exciting Clean Energy Wins in Washington

We’re taking a moment to highlight two recent clean energy wins in Washington state!

First up: The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) is continuing its shift to zero-emission cargo handling equipment by bringing on new pieces of equipment at the Tacoma Harbor. NWSA is adding one battery-electric heavy-duty 36,000-pound forklift, two battery-electric 8,000-pound forklifts, and associated charging infrastructure.

Investments like this help lower emissions at our ports and advance Washington’s pollution reduction and air quality goals!

Next: We’re celebrating a milestone for Washington’s clean energy build-out in Grant County! The county’s first solar project will result in 120 megawatts (MW) of clean power, more than 200 union jobs and $27 million in economic investment.

This is a big win for clean energy in Washington state and a great example of what Build SHIIT is all about: getting projects online.

Deadline September 30 to Nominate the Next Giuliani Entrepreneur of the Year

There’s just over a month left to help celebrate clean energy entrepreneurship in Washington state!

Each year at our Future of Carbon Policy Forum, we present the David & Patricia Giuliani Clean Energy Entrepreneur award in honor of our late founder and his wife. The award recognizes businesses making meaningful advances in clean energy innovation. Previous winners include Yakima Chief Hops, Edo, Group14, Myno Carbon, and Kenworth Truck Company.

Is your company – or another that you admire – bringing forward new ideas to accelerate our transition to a clean economy? If so, nominate them for the 2027 David & Patricia Giuliani Clean Energy Entrepreneur award!

We welcome nominations for large companies and small businesses, iconic establishments and fledgling start-ups, in any sector whether power, transportation, agriculture, maritime, manufacturing, software – you name it. Criteria includes:

Doing business in Washington state
Measurable reduction of greenhouse gases and criteria pollutants

Washington’s Subnational Climate Leadership Set to Grow

As reported in Heatmap, Washington’s linkage with California and Québec is moving closer to reality, with final rulemaking underway ahead of a 2027 launch. Washington’s rulemaking is expected to wrap up next month.

Linkage provides significant near- and long-term benefits, including program durability, a more efficient, affordable market, and enhanced collective ambition across jurisdictions. The linked market will ultimately deliver more than 50 million additional tons of reductions overall, producing a substantial net climate benefit.

Washington will be joining the fourth-largest carbon market in the world, strengthening our subnational presence on the global stage, and ensuring we continue to lead the nation in driving down air pollution while accelerating the clean energy transition.
