Growing Washington’s Clean Economy Together

Real-world benefit from clean energy investments
Clean & Prosperous helps translate Washington’s climate policies into tangible progress that benefits businesses, workers, and communities across the state. By tracking and showcasing Washington’s clean energy investments, we help communities see and understand the economic, environmental, and public health impacts while offering a model for other states and nations working to build a clean energy economy.
The nation’s leading Cap-and-Invest policy
The Climate Commitment Act limits carbon pollution by requiring large emitters to purchase allowances for their emissions, generating revenue that is reinvested into cleaner air, healthier communities, and a stronger economy. Since 2023, billions have been directed toward projects that support climate action, public health, and economic opportunity across Washington.
$3.7 billion raised through carbon auctions
3,000+ projects mapped across Washington
50% directed to overburdened communities
10% supporting Tribal Nation–led projects

    Electrifying Washington’s future
We support the state’s transition to electric and low-carbon transportation by tracking progress, sharing opportunities and demonstrating how decarbonization can reduce emissions, improve air quality, and offer long-term public and economic benefits.
In Washington state, researchers, policymakers, and businesses are working together on key systems to enable and scale:
-

                                Personal and commercial electric vehicles
-

                                Medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission trucks
-

                                Public EV charging infrastructure
-

                                Ferry and port electrification
-

School and public transit bus modernization
-

Sustainable aviation fuel production and deployment

      Charging Forward Together
The Charging Forward Together initiative is helping bring new EV charging stations to communities across Washington. After supporting local governments and businesses through the planning and application process, the focus now turns to helping deploy more than 5,300 new charging ports in diverse locations statewide. This work promotes equitable access to clean transportation and supports Washington’s broader electrification goals.

              Breaking Barriers Collaborative
Clean & Prosperous is a founding member of the Breaking Barriers Collaborative, a regional effort supporting school districts and fleet operators in accelerating their transition to electric vehicles. Through hands-on programs, the Collaborative provides the knowledge, resources and networks to develop a cost-effective electrification action plan.

              Washington Zero-Emission Incentive Program
Launching statewide in late 2025, Washington Zero-Emission Incentive Program (WAZIP) will help bring more zero-emission trucks to Washington’s roads by offering financial incentives to support the transition to battery-electric or fuel cell commercial vehicles. Clean & Prosperous is leading outreach to dealerships and industry stakeholders to help ensure strong program participation.
