We Are SO Ready for WAZIP!

It was an incredibly exciting week for Clean & Prosperous – and all of Washington state!

Earlier this week, we officially launched the Washington Zero-Emission Incentive Program (WAZIP), a $112 million Climate Commitment Act-funded program helping medium- and heavy-duty fleets switch to zero-emission vehicles with point-of-sale vouchers.

On our 2022 study mission to California, we met with Peter Christensen and the California Air Resources Board to learn about their point-of-sale program, inspiring us to work with Washington leaders to bring something similar to our state. Four years later, it’s incredible to see the fruits of our advocacy come to life!

WAZIP is one of the best uses of Climate Commitment Act funding. The program grows the economy by investing in manufacturers, dealers, and drivers. It also reduces greenhouse gases while improving air quality – particularly in overburdened communities along freight routes

As of April 30, nearly $40 million in vouchers have been requested, including $24.6 million for Class 7 and 8 vehicles! You can follow along on the WAZIP funding dashboard, updated regularly. Safe to say, Washington state is ready for WAZIP!

We want to extend a massive thank you to Governor Bob Ferguson, House Majority Leader Joe Fitzgibbon, Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary Julie Meredith, Range Zero Emissions CEO Johannes Ariens, and CALSTART Director of Off-Road Programs Jacob Whitson for joining us to celebrate the WAZIP launch! We also want to thank WSDOT, CALSTART and all of our subcontractor partners for their incredible work getting us to launch!

We also want to express our gratitude to Rep. Jake Fey and Sen. Marko Liias, who have been incredible advocates for WAZIP and transitioning to cleaner, more affordable forms of transportation for years.

Finally, we’re incredibly grateful to all of the manufacturers and dealers who provided vehicles for the WAZIP Launch Ride & Drive!
