Last Call for Executive Director Applications
This weekend is your last chance to submit your application (or make a referral) for the Clean & Prosperous Executive Director role.
In case you missed it: Our long-time Executive Director, Michael Mann, will be stepping down after the selection of a new leader and a smooth transition to their tenure. You can read his letter about the transition here.
The new Executive Director will build on Michael’s excellent work to grow our team and advance smart clean energy solutions that strengthen Washington’s economy, improve public health, and create a more resilient future. They’ll join at an exciting and dynamic time for Clean & Prosperous – and Washington state – as we finalize linkage with the California-Québec carbon market, accelerate our clean energy buildout, expand our zero-emission transportation market, and develop commonsense, effective industrial decarbonization policies.
You can find the full job announcement here. Applications submitted on or before this Monday, October 19, 2026 will receive full consideration.
Questions regarding this opportunity are welcome and can be directed to: Julie Edsforth, julie@cloversearchworks.com.
A Major Milestone for Next-Gen Geothermal
Next-gen geothermal developer Fervo Energy has declared commercial operation at their Cape Station facility in Utah, making it the first greenfield enhanced geothermal developer in the world to achieve contractual commercial operations!
Cape Station is now delivering power to the grid and generating revenue under its purchase agreement. The first GeoBlock is already producing 33 megawatts (MW) of steady, 24/7 carbon-free power, with roughly 100 MW expected by early 2027, and an additional 400 MW already under construction for 2028.

Enhanced geothermal is proving to be a reliable source of power at commercial scale, helping keep the grid stable. And with every GeoBlock making the next one faster and more predictable, geothermal is on a clear path to scaling up and bringing down costs.
Earlier this year, our delegation on Study Mission 6.0 to Texas received a briefing from Fervo Energy on their approach to geothermal development. By harnessing existing fracking technology widely used by the natural gas industry and deploying it for 24/7, carbon-free power, Fervo has far more freedom in where it can site a geothermal system, no longer relying primarily on naturally existing near-surface resources.
Washington has vast geothermal potential, and continued investment in technologies like this will be key to meeting growing electricity demand and accelerating our clean energy transition. Read more of our thoughts on geothermal here.
King County Metro is Decarbonizing Transit While Generating New Revenue
King County Metro has generated nearly $1.5 million by selling credits through Washington’s Clean Fuel Standard, which works alongside the Climate Commitment Act to incentivize cleaner transportation and reduce emissions. The revenue will support further emission reductions by advancing ongoing expansion of zero-emission bus fleets.
Since 2024, King County Metro’s bus fleet emissions have fallen 45 percent, even as service has expanded. The agency operates more than 100 battery-electric buses and 174 electric trolley buses, and expects electric vehicles to make up about one-third of its bus fleet by 2038.

Last month on our “Ride the ZEVergreen Current” tour, we visited King County Metro’s first 100 percent zero-emission bus depot in Tukwila to see the charging infrastructure, including overhead charging systems, designed to support their battery-electric fleet.
King County Metro’s commitment to zero-emission transit is helping reduce the region’s climate impact. With transportation accounting for nearly half of King County’s greenhouse gas emissions, cleaner transit is a crucial part of cutting the region’s carbon pollution.
